The Abundance of Katherines by John Green

Post by readitandwept »

This is the only John Green book that has not lead me to tears, which is good I guess. I liked the idea of a prodigy trying to make formulas to things and learning new things from him. All the characters were interesting and different, but this book just did not keep me focused. I love John Green, but this was not my favourite of his writings. Maybe I was just in a bad mood when I read it, but overall it just was not grabbing me and sucking me into the world. However, it is worth a read so check it out.

Is there a good story line? Is it like a romance?

Yeah, there is a romance, tons actually. It is about a boy named collin who has dated a bunch of Katherines and he talks about them and there is also another girl in the story. It just is not as prominent of a romance like The Fault in Our Stars was.

That just sounds like a weird book to me. Doesn't seem like his style. Does he date them on purpose?

Yeah, in a way he is obsessed with girls named Katherine. He thinks he can find a way to predict the outcome of a relationship. He wants to have his big EUREKA moment and be famous, but he is just a prodigy and he is very upset that all he can do is learn things and not create things.

No, lol he is not psycho I just re-read everything and I am laughing. It sounds like Lolita a bit. However, this book is nothing of that sort. I guess the idea of him only wanting to date Katherines is a little psycho, but that came by him realizing that the only girls he dated were named Katherine. If by anything it is a light-hearted read and is very humorous, his best friend is hilarious if that helps.

I liked An Abundance of Katherines, but I gave to agreed I dint think it's his best book. It slowed down a lot in the middle so much so that I put it down and read several other books before picking it up again.
Crap happens; it's inevitable, it's a part of life. You can't let it destroy though, you learn to be stronger and wiser through the crappy things that happen.

Well, this sounds... unique... I'm not really familiar with John Greene, but obviously this book isn't a good introduction...

Don't let this turn you off of John Green, he is a very interesting and talented writer, this just happened to be one of the less engaging novels :D

Masterpieces, you write? That's not a word you read every day about just any book... Okay, maybe it is, but it never fails to tempt me. :D I'll look into this John Green. :)
