Review of Musings of the Past
Nature around us has a way of providing us with different experiences that can reflect upon our lives and us. In the same way, our life experiences have a way of relating to nature. Every moment in our lives, each day that passes by, and each season that come and go has a way of providing a different meaning to our lives. This is certainly the case with Musings of the past: Poems for a lifetime written by Premie Nair.
The author is a full-time writer and a blogger. This is her first poetry book. The book is a collection of fifty poems written by her. The poems are about several themes including falling in love, falling out of love, understanding nature and life, and friendships. However, when reading through the poems, the reader will conclude that most of the poems are written about love and falling out of love. Anyone going through those poems will be able to reflect on their own lives, even though the author expresses her own feelings through these poems.
What I like most about the book is the most poems are thought-provoking. Every poem has an attractive name and the thoughts reflect on that particular poem is a rhyme with the name. Furthermore, the way the words have been used give a deep meaning to each poem. For example, the poem ‘Glitters’ explains the shiny, bright, and brilliant stars that glow in the night. And the author stresses that if she wants to make one wish upon these lovely stars, it is to be the most faithful lover to her fiancée. It is the same even when she expresses the feelings of loss of love. For example, when she expresses the loss of love in the poem called ‘judgment’, she says the truth is nowhere to be seen; every word seems to be a lie, and every emotion seems to be an act and not a genuine expression of feeling.
Another significant aspect of the book is the poems are not lengthy. The author has used simple language but words with deep meaning throughout. This has enabled the author to keep a high literature touch on the book as a whole. This is especially commendable as this is her first book with poems.
I did not find anything significant to dislike about this poetry book, even though one would argue that the number of poems included in the book is small in number. The readers will be eager to finish the book as the poems are rich in content and smaller in number.
I found no grammatical errors in the book. It can be said that the book is exceptionally well-edited. Considering all of the above-mentioned factors, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. There was no profanity involved. Therefore, this book can be recommended to readers who love reading poetry books. Furthermore, this will be an enjoyable read for readers, especially those who want to reflect on their past life will be and lost love.
