Review of A Brighter Tomorrow
Because of the pandemic, our world became a different, somewhat dull place. New norms were created, and people have learned to avoid socializing. Being locked away in your own small corner can open up doors for depression and stress to step in. A Brighter Tomorrow by Lori Schneider, MD, is a beautiful book of poetry written to elevate its readers and give them hope.
This short poetry book covers themes of love, hope, inequality, racism, among other topics. I liked that the author kept the poems simple and easy to understand. I liked the rhythmic nature of the poems, and it gave me a feeling that I could sing along to the words. They surely achieved the purpose of bringing hope and joy to its readers. Another positive aspect of this book was that it contained a lot of bright, colorful drawings and pictures that related to each poem. I must commend the illustrator for using his art to convey happiness and positivity. Each section of the book contained poems on a specific topic. I liked the quotes placed at the beginning of each section. They were very motivating and uplifting.
The only thing I disliked about the book was the way the PDF file was presented. Two pages were compiled into one. This did not really affect my reading experience to a great extent, since the poems were on one side and the drawings and illustrations on the other. I had no problem navigating the book, but the presentation could use some work. In some of the poems, I found some of the rhymes to be off. For example, on page 14, the author rhymed 'idea' with 'there'. Other than that, this book was perfect. There were all lovely poems that it's hard to find a favorite. Most of them were relatable, especially the one that talked about our closet during the pandemic. We all had the experience of having clothes but not being able to wear them out of the house because of social distancing.
I think this book has served its purpose of creating a brighter tomorrow. I will proudly give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. It was exceptionally well-edited, as I couldn't spot a single error. I found a lot of poems I could relate to, and they lifted my spirits.
I would recommend this book to lovers of poetry. You will find these poems simple and easy to understand. The topics expressed in this book will also intrigue activists.
