Review of A Brighter Tomorrow
After reading the first two poems of this book, I became convinced that, indeed, art is innate and not a discipline. Lori Schneider, MD, is a neurologist and an acupuncturist, who discovered her love for poetry during the lockdown occasioned by the dreaded Coronavirus, codenamed COVID-19. A Brighter Tomorrow by Lori Schneider, MD, is a book of poems that captures very insightful and resonating themes like the creative process, injustice, love, hope, and courage, to mention but a few. Although the author has written several medical journals and health-education articles, A Brighter Tomorrow is her first publication of a poetry book.
A Brighter Tomorrow sang the praise of the frontline health workers, who put their lives on the line to keep the world safe from the dreaded pandemic that ravaged the world. It also delved into the American politics, mother's love, the power of the pen, the healing power of animals, and many more, under the themes highlighted above. However, describing this book of poems will be incomplete if I fail to mention the beautiful paintings placed by the side of each poem in this collection of poems.
There are so many positive aspects of this book worthy of mentioning. Firstly, I discovered that the book was exceptionally edited, as I found no typo throughout my reading. Furthermore, Mark Salevitz, MD, was quite exceptional with the paintings in the book, as they appeared so lovely and gave a visual interpretation of the poems on each page of the book.
Another aspect of this book I found very soothing and captivating is the rhythmic style of writing adopted by the author. It is so serene and relaxing. For example, in the poem titled Never Forget, the author wrote, 'She slipped on her royal blue dress, overwhelmed with tears, Desperately longing for him over the endless years, He always loved the way she looked in the blue, Revealing the color of her eyes, so bright and true'
I found absolutely no reason to deduct a star from the book's rating. Hence, I give A Brighter Tomorrow by Lori Schneider, MD, a perfect rating of four out of four stars for being exceptionally crafted to discuss contemporary issues that affect every facet of our lives in a poetic style.
Finally, I think readers who derive pleasure from reading a book of poems that captures a wide range of themes and blended with live painting would find this book exciting.
