Shepperd Rourke's Posthumous Remorse is a poetic memoir about the life of a character who tried to stop his intake of drugs and alcohol but always went back to it. The first time he was institutionalized because it was really bad, he became stable but went back to his old ways. The next time he tried it himself, but his friend brought him back. He had a life full of regret and remorse. His wife and daughter left him because of his violent drinking and drug intake. His friend lost his wife. In almost all the moments in the book, he is always high.

As the story continues, he attacks the billions of people with religious beliefs and the cruelties that have occurred because of their beliefs. He gave an example that 8 out of ten of the safest countries are atheists or unbelievers (Japan, Canada). At the same time, the ten topmost dangerous counties are largely religious (Syria, Iraq, Nigeria, Liberia). He also said that our irrational foundation on religion had affected us politically, our judicial system and cases, and our way of thinking, which has brought about war, more deaths, and conflicts. He is of the thought that if we think more logically than morally, there will be a potential for peace and appreciation for life without guilt.

I found some positive aspects in this book. First is the author's use of prosody in this poetic memoir. How the author focused on reflecting or showing the character's personal experiences, loss, changes, intimacy, and emotional truths through memories and events that happened in the past or are happening currently was splendid. You could also see the character's raw emotions towards religion in how he attacked persons who believed in Jesus (who he saw as a fiction, someone that is not real and no proof of his existence), hell, etc.; he called those people “sadistic creators meat puppets.” I loved his use of big grammatical words because it helped to improve my word knowledge.

The negative aspect of this book is the use of crude and vulgar words. Also, I wouldn't say I liked the way he talked about religion and Jesus even though there are persons who have used it to take advantage of people and to cause chaos and death. Religion gives people something to believe in, which can have a large positive impact on mental health and stability. I wouldn't say I liked that the book encouraged the intake of illegal drugs. I will be rating this book a 4 out of 4 stars because it is exceptionally written and exceptionally well edited.

I recommend this book to persons who love to read poetic memoirs and also to persons who love poems.

I don't think an addict can just stop a habit by just self-will it takes something to compel him /her. Most times it takes the saving grace of God to help one from such addiction. Great review.

I like the fact this book touches on the issue of drug and substance abuse. Sounds very educative. Will have to put it on my shelf.

This book looks interesting from the review above. And the storyline is my kind of story. Adding it to my shelf for future reading ASAP.

This book doesn’t appeal to me and I don’t think it deserves that rating. Books that condemn people’s belief doesn’t appeal to me.

Addiction to bad habits like drugs can be destructive, it can tame one's ambition and destiny in life.

Drugs are a very bad habit because they ruin your bright future
And the manifestations that were established in it and because of their distance from God and the lack of fear and belief in Him

Addiction is real and it really affects the youth . This is a real issue even here in Africa. I will love to have this book to share with those around me in my community that are affected by Drugs and many other substances.
May all affected by addiction be delivered in Jesus name.

I am not a fan of poetry, and I do not think I would appreciate this book. You did a good job, and I applaud the quality of your review.
