Review of The Other Side Of Autumn
David Phipps's book titled "The Other Side of Autumn" is a collection of poems written by the author between the years of 1969 and 2022. The poetry that David provides covers a wide range of topics; however, the ones about nature, feelings, and God, as well as texts from the Bible, really stuck out. The reader will be able to understand the messages the author is trying to convey more because of the straightforward nature of these poems, which stand out for their simplicity.
This book is broken up into three sections: "Autumn", "Winter", and "Spring". The poems are not overly complicated and are straightforward to comprehend. The reader will take pleasure in the great variety of topics covered in these poems, despite the fact that the three sections were given names based on three of the four seasons.
I really enjoyed how the author composed his poems because, despite the fact that they are straightforward, it is still clear that the author has some insight to impart to the reader. In my opinion, these two things go hand in hand beautifully for an author who writes poetry. I like poetry because it moves me; thus, I gravitate towards reading poems that do the same for me. This is one of the reasons I enjoy poetry so much. What I liked best about his poems was that they gripped me. The poem titled "Winter" may be found on page 27, and it is my favourite poem because of the truth in it.
This book has the highest possible rating of 5 out of 5 stars from me because it satisfies all of my requirements for a poetry collection, including giving me the ability to comprehend what is being discussed and causing my feelings to be stirred up by the exquisiteness of what I am reading. The conclusion of the book was one of my favourite parts, and I think the author picked out the ideal two poems to include there. There was nothing that I did not enjoy about the book, and the fact that I did not find any flaws in the book leads me to believe that the book was edited to perfection.
I have a feeling that many of these poems will provide pleasure to anyone who appreciates the art of poetry. However, because the author includes numerous poems about God as well as scriptures in it, I would recommend it to Christians more than anyone else.
