Fresh Beginnings by Leela Dutt is an enchanting collection of short stories that is sure to keep you hooked from the first line to the last. Traversing a large number of genres, human experiences, and emotions, the author has created a book that has a little something for every reader. Brimming with compelling narratives and a strong voice, the author successfully hits the hammer on the head for every story she pursues, regardless of the time period and genre of the story.

I enjoyed the eleven short stories immensely. From the tragedy of the first chapter to the hilarious first line of the second chapter, I knew this book was accessible to me. I am a moody reader, and this book definitely catered to all my moods. The humour was punchy, and the stories were punctuated in an unparalleled manner by genuine, raw human emotion. My favourite was definitely the fourth story titled ‘Blizzard’.

There was nothing that I disliked about this book. It was a short and sweet package. I was able to read it throughout the day whenever I had time without losing my flow, as the narrative kept me engaged, and the lengths of the stories made it easy for me to read one by one whenever I could.

The writing had a lovely and easy-to-follow flow to it. I found no grammatical errors or typos to dampen my reading experience, which points to great professional editing. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars rating. The author’s voice is versatile, entertaining, and sure to keep you reading.

I would recommend this book to lovers of short stories or readers who have short attention spans. The shift in genres and the short length of the stories make for a lovely, quick, and fun reading experience.
