Title: Lullaby of Love: Selected Poems

Author: Rebecca Winning

I feel, as I reach the end of this book of poetry, strangely calmed and satisfied. As I read, I feel so drawn in: her feelings and thoughts resonate so much with me. Nature and the outdoors are described beautifully, blending seamlessly with the feelings of the indoors and domesticity.

The poetry begins in the 1970s, and I get a sense of youth and passionate love, jealousy, highs, and lows. Her poetry is emotional and raw. Throughout the book, there are references to a cold and unmoving element with words such as 'stone', 'skull', and 'shell'. These words compare with the soft, warm feelings of home and cooking. She loves and feels everything deeply.

One of the lines that I took away was this one:

'butter a yellow rivering

and bread melting to nothing

in that German morning'

How could anyone not be moved by lines such as these?

I will also quote here the line in 'Early Morning': 'I don't know if you love me'. This line blends in well with what she has written about so far.

Towards the end, she refers to aging and death more and more.

The poetry is written so well. It is easy to read and understand; it's not bumptious or trying to be anything else. The poems are like a story told in the abstract. I love the fact that there are no obscenities or violence; this makes it a good read for everyone.

The book would make a good addition to anyone's bookshelf, and I feel that it should be part of the curriculum in the English Literature department in schools.

Rebecca Winning has delved into thoughts behind thoughts, and I absolutely love it. To this end, I will award five out of five stars.

The book was edited perfectly, and the poems were short; therefore, they had resonance. I look forward to reading more of her work

I am a great fan of poetry and it is always good to find a poetry book that is simple and straightforward, yet captivating. The fact that this one delves into the thoughts behind thoughts is amazing. Many thanks for the review, @Rebecca De Figueiredo.
