The Miniaturist and The Blind Men and the Elephant

"The Blind Men and the Elephant" is a parable about perception - someone has different blind men feel one different part of an elephant and then tell what they think they are feeling - one says a tree trunk, one says a wall, etc.
Does anyone see similarities between these two stories? Do you think anyone in the story knew the actual truth regarding all the things that were occurring?
