Very special story!! So well written. Took me a minute and then I had to look up the words to the song again. I love stories that give you a mental image that stays with you. Thanks for sharing it.
1 Cor 15: 19-20, 26 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead...The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

Many thanks for your comment. This one was fun to write. People seemed to like it too which always makes me feel good in the sense that I haven't wasted their time when they read it.

I am honestly not attempting to bump this story, but I just found an exceptionally fine amateur cover of the song that inspired this story and wanted to share it with those who are familiar with the song.

As a Beatles fan (my mom's fault), I loved this. The dialogues are so organic, and the story is super atmospheric. Well done!

Hi @Sean, and thank you for your response. The thing I like most about short story writing is that you can dash off an idea without having to spend a lot of time developing it as one must do with a novel or novella.

My inspiration for this piece came from one line of the song - Father McKensie, wiping the dirt from his hands as he walked from the grave. I sort of framed a mental picture of this and the rest of the story evolved from that point.

I hope to see some of your work posted here too.
As soon as I saw 'Eleanor Rigby' I figured it was a herring. I rushed off to search for the name and found the song. You're right; one of the best things about short stories is being able to pick a thread from any point and just run with it. This was a little gem to read :)
