Forget Me Not

Post by karolinka »

The sight stirred painful memories in Stan. He remembered that autumn, her standing there in her red dress, bare feet muddy from the water in the river. She was brushing little pieces of leaves out of her hair, to make herself pretty for that one last time, before she slit her wrists with the razor and collapsed into the river.
It was autumn again. Leaves were slowly drifting down from the trees and the wind was blowing them into the river. Everything was as before. The wind blew a smell of a familiar perfume to him, and she stood there, a transparent apparition of the person she once had been, her red dress fluttering in the wind. Stan smiled and fired the gun pointed to his head. They were finally together.

It was incredibly sad. I loved this vignette, not only because of how you tied in autumn with the girl's death, but also how Stan reacted to it. Although I'd probably offer some serious psychological help, I feel like you could expand on this to be such a wonderful story. I enjoyed the sensory imagery too, although I'd recommend a bit more detail as to how the autumn blends in with the girl's tragic appearance. Overall, nice work.

Yes, it's sad; perhaps too sad; there ought to have been extenuating circumstances... what were they? as a reader, I would genuinely like to know, in order to make my reading experience complete.

Wow. This is a poignant and sad little tale. I enjoyed it very much! The way you wrote made it so easy to picture this woman and this man which made it even more haunting.

It is a sad story and I liked it. But it could have been better if it was quite elaborated.

That was a great read :) I especially like how vividly the scene was painted.
