Poem by Gideon Matungamidze

I KNEW IT

I knew the day would come
When my sorrows would drown
And disappear would be my frown
And happy I would be like some.

It came when you promised me
That for life mine you would be
And we sailed together on the boat
Ensuring to keep it afloat.

Yet deep inside, I knew it too
That what starts always ends
But I hoped differently for us two
That in our union there would be no bends.

Your moods changed trajectory,
Your emotions changed the factory,
Your actions plunged the boat
And your words silenced the goat.

I knew it, the sun would set
And the wind would blow no good,
It has come to pass as I bet
And our union fed no food.

Now that the boat has capsized,
The gloom has for me up-sized
And I loathe the day I fell for you
And hoped it would never fade or hew.

No blaming you, I had my downs
But I knew yours were grave
Only I kept in because I was brave
And I knew you would change towns.

Farewell thee, Grace be upon your soul
And upon my head may Light fall
That we both may have a brighter day
In the life ahead on our way.
