"A Teen's Struggle"

From a low-income family, I learned to be humble,
Not the favored child in my sibling's bright rumble.
I sought strength within, enduring through the fight,
Incompetence and worthlessness are a constant blight.

Days consumed by doubts in a culture so silent,
Conforming in different ways, only partially compliant.
Seeking gratification but losing my mind,
Sacrificing my peace to keep the world aligned.

I lived to please others; their wishes I'd decree,
Their praise showered on another, not a word for me.
Failure's constant echo, a relentless repetition,
The favorite sibling, drowning in competition.

Frustration drained my soul, depression's heavy toll,
Gaslighting and denial, their weapons were taking control.
Surviving this storm, finding my way,
It became a daily struggle, come what may.

Alcohol beckoned, a tempting, fleeting ease,
Yet, I longed for acceptance, an inner sense of peace.
To be embraced for who I am, without a rebel's strife,

I raise my voice, not just for myself, but for every teen's plea.
I hope our struggles are seen, our voices set free, and our opinions embraced.
