Curled

Curled up with a book as yet unread,
promise in its pages of a place
not linked to my reality, to time and space,
my dreams as yet undreamt, by others fed ...

By others in their manner, at their pace,
perhaps by misery or conflict led,
perhaps with fantasy and feeling wed,
but touched, I think, by some odd kind of grace ...

And I am curled up with their words, and see
black on white transform to colours glowing,
and into landscapes waiting there for me,

and into knowledge I'm richer for knowing,
and I drink greedily and gratefully,
curled within the vine of others' growing.

I like this poem. It speaks beautifully to the heart of the act of embarking on a new literary voyage.
