Hi, I'm new here. This is the first poem I wrote about 20 years ago. I started writing poems by using words or names down vertically in order to determine the words I was going to use. That being said...

Sometimes children from
Urban places learn to
Build walls around them.
Students who think they are
Tough but in reality are only
Innocent children
Trying to make it in this
Upside-down world of ours.
Taking precautions for
Everything.

Times like this
Each child needs an
Adult they can
Count on to
Help them break through the
External walls around them and
Realize just how wonderful they are.

Thanks for reading,
Beth

The message is so powerful. I feel like more people should see children as people. They are growing, but they have these coping mechanisms that are fully functional. I hope you're a teacher.
