For Clay - My Husband who Passed in October

One blessing came first, it started at birth
God gave me the best Dad and Mom
And over the years, through good times and tears
They taught me to be true and strong
And at the same time, a blessing he gave
My sisters and brother to me
To fight with and play, and help me each day
To find out who I need to be

And when I was grown, not quite on my own
He gave me the blessing of Clay
Completing my soul and making me whole
And helping me grow day by day
And in God’s great plan, I married this man
Who brought to me such love and great joy
And blessed me again, in wisdom God’s plan
Gave me my sweet girl and good boy

We raised them with love with help from above
They grew up to be strong and brave
The blessings God gave to me and to Clay
Grew brighter through good times and bad
We gave them our best and again we were blessed
When they found their own loves in His plan
So two more to love, straight down from above
More blessings He gave me again

Small family we were, but not anymore
As grandchildren came over time
And spoil them it’s true, but keep His plan, too
We watch as they’re raised in His light
We love and adore (and diaper no more)
Leave that chore to their folks when we can
And soak up the hugs, the cuddles, the love
As more blessings we found in His plan

As older we grew, things change in our lives
And one day you took Clay back home
To live in your light, and lay down his fight
And rest, whole again by your side
I miss him I do, and terribly, too
Though this, too was in your great plan
But I’m left behind, unsettled, afraid
And wish I could still hold my man

Please watch over me, our kids and theirs too
And family and friends far and wide
Clay had a soft heart, big smile, open arms
I wish he was still by my side
But in days to come, God’s will must be done
We here on this earth will abide
We’ll remember him well, and the stories he’d tell
And with your grace heal in good time

I’m grateful each day, for blessings you gave
Each day of my life, one by one
But God may I ask, right now for one more
Let him feel that my love lives on
And ask him for me, to save me a seat
By his side and please God by yours
I cherish the life you gave me with Clay
I couldn’t have asked you for more
