"So Long"

"So Long"

Everybody said our lives would change
Told us our beliefs would never be the same
We didn't believe them, we had to try
We said our friendship was worth the fight

Told each other we were friends before
I had faith until you shut the door
Our cheers turned shallow, our laughter now fades
I can't believe you just walked away

Like a stranger who never looks back
Like a lonesome hobo on the railroad track
Like an unknown spirit that never was free
Or another person who keeps walking past me

Like a broken soul who took his life in a leap
Like a long lost friend who never found me
It was nothing we couldn't fix if we'd just held on
You just said "So long"

Can't understand how you pushed away
Can't understand why you couldn't stay
I was hoping today you hadn't gone
But your final note said "Friend, so long"

I'll be here should you change your mind
Forever your friend till the end of time
My faith was shattered, but hope still clings
Despite these broken wings
