A Dry Life Without Tears


Maybe a life without tears isn't worth living,
And a journey without fear not worth facing.
Triumph without challenge: hollow,
unreal.

Maybe the sweetest love is the love of a wet tear
The love of drama
The love of pain
The love of the twisted fate
that made things this way.

Maybe the beauty of reality is the blood
The sweat
The fighting
Screaming
The claws

The falling
The sunset
The dark night

The dirt on your feet
On your hands
On your knees

In a dark muddy forest,
A wet dirty smile.

Your poem reminds me of two songs: "Doctor My Eyes" by Jackson Browne and "Colors" by Ice-T. I'm sure the philosopher's dealt with the question of how we know happiness by knowing sadness, etc., I'm thinking Aristotle, maybe Bentham or Mill, but it's been a long time since I've read those guys. I'm not a poet myself, I'm not sure how poets actually come up with poems. I think it holds some truth, perhaps unfortunate, perhaps misguided, but true nonetheless. Thank you for sharing!

I do have my personal story, but one of things I like about art and especially this medium is being able to broaden the reliability. For instance, when I wrote my other poem, I Cried Today, for me I was inspired by the idea of losing a romantic love

Loved the poem!
The thing I dislike about poems is often the poet uses specific details from their experience and the poem tho beautifully written makes no sense to the reader unless explained.
Here there seems to be a story, giving it depth, while allowing the reader to feel it and making their own connections to it.
And it made me smile, that is always something.
