BATHING IN THE MIRAGE

Poised by the mandate euphoria,
our patriot eyes itch
from protracted straining into the politician's maze.

We become blinking giraffes,
totally hoodwinked to their dazzles and specters,
enduring to wash off in that pool not afar.

They tell us emollient stories,
and show to the outside, television kindness
that we may not know the water is a mirage.
