Family Christmas

My body's hurt and my spirit is drained.
My family fights on Christmas again.
I cant help but feel that it was my fault.
I could have walked away,
Thrown the pie in the trash.
All cause my stepdads allergic.
But my uncle's an ass.
He called me a bitch so I told my mom
I then went outside to put my head back on.
I heard screaming, fighting, some punches too.
My mom would defend me through and through
My mom wound up leaving.
I would have as well
If I hadn't seen my grandmas tears starting to swell.
I stayed outside until I was calm
Went and apologized almost all night long.
I stayed for her though I wanted to scream.
The pain inside almost bursting at the seams.
When I got home I cried myself to sleep
As the love of my life begged me not to weep.
It's the day after Christmas and I have one question to ask.
Was I in the right or was I the ass?

Wow, this is an amazing pain and it shows Christmas is not a happy day for everybody. While some look forward to spending Christmas with their families, some dreaded it. I love how you put your soul into writing this poem as I could feel the emotions seeping out from the lines.

Ah Christmas is such a tricky subject. The media portrays it as such a fun family filled time but I think perhaps more people dislike or do not enjoy Christmas than we think. Dealing with family tensions on chrismas is horrible, you should be respected on everyday of the year, I do not believe you should not defend yourself just to keep the peace on Christmas. I think a lot of people can relate to this. Thank you for providing us with such a personal and truthful poem, great job!
