Beloved possession


you don't love me,
though you say you do.
you only love yourself.

if you loved me,
you would want me
to be happy.
but
you only want happiness for yourself.

you want to own me,
claiming that
you care about me.
but
you only care about yourself.

if what I want is different,
you disagree with me.
but
you don't disagree with yourself.

you don't love me,
though you say you do.
you only love yourself.

Your poem reminds me of a woman I know who talks about people she's known who have narcissistic personalities. I think the poem is sad, but probably also an awakening or an understanding of how some people are.
