Sinking People

Bustling, busy, better than those who
Cover their eyes to hide an expression of pain
Faces in the water, distorted
Wind whips round and pulls the waves over
Underneath those who lie, lie together

And then I started falling, sinking deep
Looking at those above who fight the waves
Those able to fight the current that pulls us under

And then there are the hands that reach to pull us out
Taking us up higher, but the surface of the water remains unbroken

And then the wind fades and again we rise
Aching, abused, supposedly accepted
Accepted by those who swim

And then the wind returns.

The poem is based on what life is like living with chronic pain/illness.

A great poem indeed. To me it's also about survival in this life. There are those who will hold your hand when in problems so that you don't sink into depression, others will let you go when others try to hold your hand but they have their buggage of problems so they don't manage.
