The Polished Grace of a Beaten Ghost

Post by Scott »

I wrote this today, with the help of my 10-year-old daughter.

Let me know what you think!

---

If my branches touch the sky
If my flowers see the sun
It's only because my dirty roots
crawl deep through the mud

If my confidence shines during the triumphs
It's only because it's been polished by defeats

If I slide with slippery grace
through the roughness of today
It's only thanks to the friction of yesterday

If like water through air
If like rock through water
I gracefully float
through the most solid obstacles
with the grace of a ghost
Myself more solid than solid
Myself more dense than dense
Myself more real than real

Then it is from the pressure
The resistance
The heat
The fire
That has held me back
Molded me
Burned me
And set me truly free

---

I like how this paints the silver lining to a cloud. Because despite all the things that could drag a person down, you are looking at the positive achievements that make you stand out.

This is beautiful. And so significant. The deeper the roots the taller you raise up. Great poetry.

This is really beautiful. The rigorous process of yesterday made us who we are today. Process is golden.

Yes, Stephanie_Chapman is correct. And it is because you(the subject person) have been dragged down, that he/she is able to pull the self through the hardships and start "looking at the positive achievements that make you stand out." Excellent piece of writing Scott and Amaya darling.

This is absolutely beautiful! I love how there’s this positive outlook in life, that even though we go through hardship, we can always a find a way to make it through. There’s also this undertone of inner strength that helps us through the worst of times.

It’s wonderful that you and your daughter can work together on something so deep and meaningful. It shows what a powerful relationship you two have, and I feel helps her see that when you put your mind to it, you can do anything.

Thank you for sharing! :D

This is a beautiful piece, when someone can touch your heart soul with words this magnificent explaining where you have been and what you'll be. That in itself explains it all.

This poem is rich with striking insights. I admire most the second stanza. It is through pains, sufferings, rejections, and betrayals, among others, that the our indestructible self is born. Thank you for blessing my day with this message.

A very nice poem. I enjoyed it very much. It offers wisdom and strength to those who may need it most.

This is great! The reminder that discomfort is the process of refinement. Sometimes we need to go through pains and suffering to obtain the grace. When the purity of fire is necessary for our development and growth we'll suffer burns. Sometimes we avoid related experiences but challenges always come to test us. ✨

This is absolutely beautiful. The imagery is so tangible. Keep it up. I think it is absolutely beautiful that you wrote this with your daughter. She has talent.
