Vengeance

by Cyfir
Your hate consumes you,
Every waking moment,
It whispers in your mind,
Body,
Soul.
On how They must pay.
You agree wholeheartedly.
It whispers plans,
Plans to bring about their humiliation,
Pain,
Sorrow,
End.
Every sleeping moment,
In your dreams,
Dreaming of ways to put Them to rest.
Forever consumed with Vengeance.
You yearn to put it to rest,
An eye for an eye,
After all.
What you don't know,
Is that They already have Vengeance on you.

I really like the last line of the poem. Is this poem about seeking revenge on someone or perhaps dwelling on the past?

The poem is about a person seeking revenge.

So well done! It's such an elegant poetic solution to the tenet "an eye for an eye."

This paints vengeance as it truly is... consuming and hideous.
Last line is a fun twist.

Well done, I like how the poem is structured.

This poem is so good. The structure is very well done! I especially like the lines "Plans to bring their humiliation,
Pain,
Sorrow,
End."
Who is They, though? Can I know? Or is it to remain a mystery?

Honest admission of some deed you've done that made others vindictive, and that you will be vengeful against any act of vengeance that others will do. The cycle would not end. The Law of the Talion (Lex Talionis) says about an "eye for an eye" to which Gandhi said that "that would make the world all blind." Now, it's also been said, "a tooth for a tooth" and I say, that would make all the world toothless. lol. Incidentally, Hammurabi made a variant concept that this could only apply to men of rank -- which provides that if you cause a common man to lose his eye, you could just pay him money, and you keep your eye. So, watch out for those men of rank. lol. Nice philosophical poem you got here.
