To Jessica again

Unfortunately the drunken ramblings continued

I had wings once too, the same as yours

Pristine in white I’d soar so high,

A chance to fly amongst the gods,

A chance to touch the clear blue sky.

But now I stand beside your grave,

The feathers grey fall to my feet.

I stir the dust with broken wings and know that soon again we’ll meet.

No soul can fly with a heavy heart,

It drags us down deep in the mud.

Our tear streaked faces glazed and lost,

We see the dark and not the good.

And in the dark my wings renew,

They creak of black and beaten hide,

I fly again on darkened skies, I ripped out that heart the day you died.

Among the headstones and the yew, your flickering candles light your bed,

And as I glide across the moon,

I greet the time I too am dead.
