Separate Lines
I see you in the mirrors. When I am all alone and the ghost of your presence in my life is a memory, I see you.

You with the red ribbon in your hair.

I see you in the puddles that collect in pools for geese to wander in. I see you in the faraway place I can always glimpse in my periphery.

I see you in the shadows of the leaves, and when I am alone on the beach and the earth turns dark and hollow, I see you at the edge of sea and sand.

I call for you, I scream until the world ends. But I can never reach you. You are everywhere I look but you never even glance. I try to catch you, praying you see me run, but you are always moving away from me.

You are never looking back.
