War and Truce – by Sujeer Lukose
The advent of war;
With drums on a roll,
The battlefront is out,
Stallions in a battalion,
Soldiers on the hunt,
Lions on a roll,
Tigers on the prowl,
Resonating in a cacophony of echoes.
War on a roll;
From a distance; hundreds unfold,
All the kings’ men and horsemen,
Perched up on horsebacks,
Buckled up to their knees with sandals,
Padded up their sleeves with armor,
Hoofing on; the stallions with their heels,
Dusting off the earth’s mud after,
Uniformly arrive in a camaraderie.
The war set off the mark;
With thrust to resist each other’s blows
and friction to withstand the odds,
All settled to face the attack of the enemy,
It’s Valliant’s day,
Emerging as the victor when
The bugle called heralds and come to a halt,
The magnanimous reigns the king,
Before truce is called as the order of the day.
