The Oracle's Cries

Post by Scott »

I wrote this today. Let me know what you think! :D

The Oracle's Cries

If you saw the bloody car accident
That stole her life away
So young
Would you still conceive
The one you will love
With the one you love

If you already knew the divorce lawyers' names
If you could see the judge's gavel
If you could feel all that pain
Would you still ask her on that first date?
Would you kiss and love today
with the same twinkle in your eye
if you knew
fate will twist the sweetest love to something much like hate

If you could smell the rubble and ash
As the burning building one day crumbles
Would you still lay the bricks?

Would you chase a dream
that you know you'll never catch?

If you could taste tomorrow's failure today
Would you still play?

If you felt the inevitable loss
The pain
The anger
The futile regret
Would you be turned off
Or would it make this moment
that much sweeter?

They say that once we’ve lived, we will always love again. When we love it’s filled with hope but over time and hurts and disappointments, do we retain hope to love or do we become fearful or even bitter and isolated? I choose to retain hope to love and your penned words remind me of the cost of love, so very valuable but tenuous as well.

This reminds me of a song called The Dance. https://youtu.be/iYhnFvxTjok

Wow, this is very powerful and makes me feel so many emotions.

I had a sister who passed away almost 10 years ago now, and if I could have foreseen that or if my parents knew her passing was going to happen, we would still want Inez in our lives for the time she was here…she was a beautiful person and one who I always miss. She is a person that will always be in my heart and still makes me sad to think of her not being here with us, but she was my support and my best friend. Those memories are ones I don’t ever want to forget. So, yes, even if my parents knew or if I knew what was bound to happen, we would still want her to be here for those 43 years.

That is one of my favorite songs. I remember when it came out. It really captured my imagination.

I think you are right. The lyrics really do speak to Scott's poem. Sometimes the memory is worth the pain.
