Dear Sun☀

Post by Kavita Shah »

Dear Sun,

I hope you've been well
It's the heat I tell you
It's not going down
I tried to water the lawn but
Nothing seeps in the barren soil
I really miss you from back then
How sunny it used to be
I had an iced drink
You shimmering on with the bees
I was hoping you'd listen
Just this once
I only want the temperature to fall
Birds are parched
I found three dead on the porch this morning
Shock is now a thing of the past
I now regret neglecting you
Now my letters remain unposted
I cannot meet you in the eye
You're enraged
I know
Sadly, I didn't put a stop to it
I let you get smoked and isolated
Sending CFCs and pollutants everyday
I'm sorry for Ozone, it had such a nice layer
Now broken and torn
I'll end this with one more request
Don't be angry
I'll try now, maybe we can work things out
Just like the past
When you were sunny and warm
Not blazing hot.

Interesting read. Nostalgia for a time before is rarely about something that is present in the day. I imagine a person peering longingly outside in a place where certain doom is imminent in the near future. It's simple and yet personal in a way you'd talk to an old lover.
