Lament
Must human stuff have its only home
In flesh, blood and bone?
What's to bar that it reside in light?
Electrons in their flight are
Thought's swifter messengers (by far)
Than blood
Which at fastest flow only seeps
And to its channeled courses keeps
And never leaps the chasm 'twixt bliss and protoplasm.

I like this poem. It has a really interesting idea and concept. But I'm not so sure that I understand what you mean by the very last line. What is the bliss that you are referring to? Does human stuff not include thought (which is infact transmitted through electrons)?

Thanks for the insight. You're absolutely right. Human stuff does include the electronic mode. Whether it resides there rather than in the blood, I don't know nor does the persona of the poem. As for "bliss", I think of it as some mental/emotional state of awareness that transcends physical existence. Kind of fuzzy, stuff, I know and claim no artistry in my attempt to make a poem of it. Must also admit that I was too much tempted and trapped by the prospect of a rhyme for 'protoplasm.' As Socrates' grandmother might have said, "Most poetry ain't."

Your poem reminds me of an epiphany I experienced as a boy when it occurred to me that we are made of chemicals - the basic elements of nature - but those elements had configured themselves in the mind of man to actually become aware of their own existence.
Nice work! A poem which begs a profound question ... perhaps THE most profound.
