Beneath the Golden Leaf

Post by Chek Parker »

This was written several years ago when I was still in high school. It was inspired in part by the Lord of the Rings universe, but it also just popped into my head one day and would not leave me alone until I put it down on paper.

Shouting, slashing, biting, gnawing
Is a way to go
Loving, hugging, kissing, holding
Is another way to go
But the way I choose is none of these
For I go alone beneath the trees
No hugging no fighting
No kissing no biting
I go alone

Away from others do I dwell
In the field and on the dell
I seek no comfort from the past
Nor on the future do my thoughts last
Here in the present am I am I
Beneath the water and in the sky
No lies to tell or truths to weave
Here beneath the Golden Leaf

In the forest do I roam
Over moss and over loam
Over green grass and hallowed hills
Under the stars I go I go
To seek not but peace
Beneath the Golden Leaf

In my forest above the sky
I watch the eagles fly by fly by
And in my forest beneath the sea
I watch the great fishes glide by glide by
And in my forest in between
I watch and see
All the creatures of Terra
Roam free roam free

But sometimes I wish
For another like me
To roam the wide skies with
To swim in the sea
One I can hold and one I can love
Beneath the Golden Leaf

I search and I search both high and low
But no other can I find
Of my kind my kind
Through time have I searched
Once a great age ago
Back when the fields were new
Before the tall mountains grew

To the sun in the sky
To the stars at night
Did I call out to in my plight
Some comfort did they bring to me
My search was almost complete

Far away in a distant land
A land I had overlooked
Was a fair child of the earth and wind
A wanderer wild and free

Like dark copper was her hair
Shimmering beneath the sun
Like silk her smooth flawless skin
Warm beneath the moon

Her voice was like a sweet clear brook
Laughing as it flows
Like light on water she danced and played
And bid me come and stay
For she too was lonely
Among the stars at night

Together did we walk on high
Up in the endless cloudless sky
And together did we swim down deep
To where no sunlight shown
Marveling at the lighted fish that swam so long ago
And in our forests did we roam
Over grass and over stone
Happily did we dwell in peace
Together beneath the Golden Leaf
