A Cycle

The numbness of her body
was flowing from her pores.
Her presence like a persistent drowning wave,
Ease interceding Fear
Fear interceding Ease
A cycle
breaking once a peak is reached
To begin again,
Fear anticipating Ease
Ease anticipating Fear
until gravity disappeared.
Inundating life
with hands reaching from the crest
grabbing hold of anything offering support
pulling themselves further and further inland
to drown everything.
Fear anticipating Ease.
What was vulnerable
is no more.

Alone, this poem is very abstract, and I find it personally a little difficult to relate to it or connect it with anything. What is the background to this? Or what inspired you to write this? What causes this cycle? I suppose this could be meant to be open-ended and abstract and I can accept it as is.

Thank you for your feedback, DarkestbeforeDawn. This is a modification to a thought I had regarding the struggle/seduction of addiction, and the lack of understanding from someone who has not faced the struggle. It was more of a wish that a person going through these struggles could allow the feeling to transfer to someone who doesn't understand. This is my first time sharing any of my written thoughts, so I really appreciate any feedback I can get.
