An old man and his dog

Plodding easily down the road
Who the pace is slow for, it is not at first clear
But both are happy with the speed
The grass grows in time with them,
Intrepid partners doing the rounds one more time.
The newly old light of day making their age glow
Half light, half night
And barely a few seconds past gold.
As harsh bright youths light up and glare down,
The indomitable pair sigh and trundle in the wheelie bins
Glance again at the falling, gold disc
It is done,
Neighbours can set their watches, the earth can crawl round.
Tomorrow may come.
Who the pace is slow for, it is not at first clear
But both are happy with the speed
The grass grows in time with them,
Intrepid partners doing the rounds one more time.
The newly old light of day making their age glow
Half light, half night
