The young soldier's prayer

He lies awake in his tent, restless and weary
He hears the distant sound of guns and bombs
He thinks of his village, his friends, his love
He wonders if he'll ever see them again

He remembers the days of laughter and joy
He remembers the games they played, the songs they sang
He remembers the eyes of his love, so tender and true
He remembers the promise they made, to wait for each other

He feels a pang of longing, a surge of fear
He feels the weight of duty, the burden of war
He feels the pain of separation, the loss of hope
He feels the tears in his eyes, the ache in his heart

He prays to God for strength, for peace, for mercy
He prays for his comrades, his enemies, his people
He prays for his village, his friends, his love
He prays for a chance to return, to live, to love
