Amsterdam

Amsterdam by Casimir Greenfield

Amsterdam, you used to be the City Of Love
But the times have changed and your streets feel strange
The shadows are cast from above
In the City Of Love

The heart of the city has been tunnelled away
Humanity moved into tombstone grey
Will time heal the scars when the dust blows away
I wonder

There’s dirt on the street, filth in the mind
Accident zones where love is a lie
The heart of the city getting ready to die
Get ready

The Children Of God and the devil’s disciples
Rub shoulders with their faith
The good-hearted whore and the dregs at their door
Sit waiting for their fate
The lepers are suited, the gin is diluted
Hey, don’t the world seem small
Slow Poison trickles through the veins and the night life spits on the floor

At the windows the faces and mirrored embraces
Have lost any sense of shame
The blue light trance and the drunken dance
Add more fuel to the flame
Deeper and deeper, still clutching at straws
Reason is slipping away
The problem is global, so who gives a damn
There are no more reasons to stay

Amsterdam, you used to be the City Of Love
But the times have changed and your streets feel strange
The shadows are cast from above
In the City Of Love
