Cracks Like Glue

Post by Scott »

I just wrote this today. Let me know what you think! :D

To be loved by another
is to be loved in bits and pieces

What I've learned
from nearly four decades
of broken hearts
from half-hearted love
and fair-weather friends
from monkey-branched lovers
and sweet fleeting nights
from reuniting
and long re-lost brothers
from the dark silence of unrung phones
and the cold quiet echoes
of the things we wish we never said

Is you're the only one
who knows the whole of you
who sees the cracks like glue
who sees how the pieces all fit together
As something so lovable and whole and true
And if you're looking to truly be loved
The only person who can really do it
is you

All love is self-love
And you're never really alone
Because separation is an illusion
And they only ever really love you
When they see the fleeting reflection of themself
In the shattered glass of you

'An other' is just the words we use
for another you

They can never see what you see
from inside the broken mirror
They only see the bits and pieces
The fleeting glimmers and sparkling twinkles
The brief reflections of themselves
In the shattered glass of everything they thought was you

'An other' is just the words we use<br />for another you
'An other' is just the words we use
for another you

A very poignant piece. The line "All love is self-love" especially resounded with me. Thank you!

I thought that the poem was great and very insightful. You must love yourself before you can love another.

Wow, this is so touching and real! It's amazing how you've put into words the complex journey of self-love and the struggle to find true connection in our relationships. It really speaks to the soul.

Reflections on life! Thoughts that arise within a person amidst the turmoil of life. 'What I've learned from nearly four decades of broken hearts,' a nice beginning of the poem. 'You're the only one who knows the whole of you,' a good observation by one who learns from life.

First this poem is insightful to me and descriptive. I like how you carefully wove the words to better explain about love and friendship. I feel like Im doing reality check with myself while reading this & I like how you place self love to be of the utmost importance despite everything else.

This reminds me of a transcendental experience I had a few years ago. I entered a timeless space where my life flashed before me, and I realised that everything that happened to me was perfect, because every single experience contributed to my present perfect being. I let go of so much self judgement in those moments and regained so much lost self-love. Thank you for this poignant reminder. 💗
