We learn from our parents
Spend our lives unlearning what we were taught
Passing it on to our children
And then spend the rest of our lives apologizing for messing them up

We make excuses that we were victims
We didn’t know any better
That is just the way it was

We spend thousands on therapy
Trying to figure out what happened
And how to fix it

We take our frustrations, disappoints and fears
Out on our children
Then apologize for our actions

We blame our parents
Our children blame us
We send them to therapy to undo
What we did do to them
Because of what was done to us

It is the total of our lives
