You may have read about me, followed me in various guises,
as I encounter peril, predation, and surprises,
There are thousands of novels, no, millions, you will see,
but essentially the heroine (pardon vanity) is me.

I have had a dodgy boyfriend, even husband, perhaps,
who wooed me with honeyed words, but then came the traps,
he was no Perfect Mate, rather a Perfect Beast,
Behind that boyish smile lurked a mass murderer (at least).

So, what did I do, well, as anyone who looks
at succeeding chapters in the afore-mentioned books,
will know I rent a cabin miles from anywhere,
and (not even with a dog) decide to hide out there.

For 'logic' states I'm safer, if I am alone,
and of course there's no reception for my mobile phone,
at the mercy of the elements and any passing stranger,
that's how I protect myself from any hint of danger.

But it turns out I've a neighbour, in the cabin right next door
(which in odd selective blindness I hadn't seen before)
and he is often taciturn, and makes me feel uneasy,
with a manner that's designed to turn me faint and queasy.

All the same I stay there, so he can do his worst,
as I have in many books before, a drama well-rehearsed,
and no, I need not fear, for mercy need not beg,
because the spooky neighbour is really a good egg.

As I sit there in my cabin miles from anywhere
cut off from the world I need not have a care,
for all will turn out well, and all be fine and nice ....
but just a tip, dear reader, don't follow my advice!

You definitely have a gift for writing and phrasing. I get the feeling you dashed this off rather quickly, but even so it is quite good in my opinion. Thank's for sharing.
