Late Autumn afternoon. A forest clearing ...
a space sunlight- speckled, in the shade.
A sound almost unheard. Then, softly nearing,
Another creature steps into the glade ...
A graceful deer, with careful tread appearing,
wary, yet, I'd warrant, not afraid ...
and now, two creatures standing there
breathing in the Autumn air.
One trespasser, into the woodland wending,
one stranger, who is born of human kind,
but here, at this bright place of gentle blending
the woodland creature does not seem to mind,
rather, in harmony, unborn, unending,
each one of these creatures seems to find
reflected in the other's gaze
an echo of sweet, distant days.
