Encounter

Late Autumn afternoon. A forest clearing ...
a space sunlight- speckled, in the shade.
A sound almost unheard. Then, softly nearing,
Another creature steps into the glade ...
A graceful deer, with careful tread appearing,
wary, yet, I'd warrant, not afraid ...
and now, two creatures standing there
breathing in the Autumn air.

One trespasser, into the woodland wending,
one stranger, who is born of human kind,
but here, at this bright place of gentle blending
the woodland creature does not seem to mind,
rather, in harmony, unborn, unending,
each one of these creatures seems to find
reflected in the other's gaze
an echo of sweet, distant days.

I liked this poem Lassie. Once again you have touched upon something I have experienced myself and put into one of my own works. Unlike the "November" poem from my schooldays, which I mentioned in your poem's thread that I could not recall, this one was written just a bit more recently. *L*

Here's the link if you'd like to read it. The encounter with the bird in my poem is somewhat tangential to your description of the encounter with the deer.

Thanks once again for sharing an excellent poem with us. I find all of your poems both entertaining and moving.

Thank you so much, @DATo - I have read your poem (will re-read it later with the slowness and attention it deserves) and love it. I found the line 'A sooty evening descends in grays and purples' especially evocative. A picture painted by words!
