I said I love the Smiths

Post by Vikhyati Doda »

I said, "I love The Smiths,"
You smiled, like we were made to fit—
As if Morrissey penned our fate in lines,
A universe caught in a love that binds.

But listen close—did you really hear?
That melody, both light and sheer,
Hid under beats of broken cheer,
Telling a story darker, dear.

I was Summer, wild and free,
Not the dream you made of me.
I never promised stars or sun,
Just moments before they’d come undone.

We laughed in parks, in vinyl stores,
Flipping records, sharing lore,
But you saw love, where I saw friends—
A start that didn’t need an end.

For you, the days were numbered, stacked,
But love, it’s freedom I never lacked.
A season can’t be held or claimed,
And I won’t live where hearts are framed.

I loved The Smiths, not as a vow,
Just as a feeling, here and now—
I never meant to be your home,
Just a girl, a fleeting poem.

I hope you’ll find what makes you whole,
Something steady, safe, and bold,
But know this truth, both kind and sad—
Some seasons aren’t meant to last.

So let the record spin, replay,
Find your winter, find your May,
And remember, love, as we part ways—
I never promised forever days.

Great job at describing your feelings towards the Smiths! It is very difficult to determine the actual intentions of the other person, and that is something that I never understood.

Beautifully describes the feelings of a girl as she exclaims to her lover that the love he has been looking for might not be her.she is just like a season that passes and another season comes. They might not last longer together.
