A Whispered Goodbye

Two hearts, once fond of each other,
Gradually grew apart.
And suddenly, our two worlds turned dark.
Now we wear these smiles
Like a mask
A thick coat of paint
To cover the scars.
We appear as though we are happy,
But the wounds run deep.
The love we once shared
Is now out of reach.
Our souls weep
To be set free.
We still hope for true love,
Though we dare not seek.
What even is love?
We ask ourselves.
Is it a fleeting emotion,
That demands self-sabotage
To keep it alive?
Still, the idea seems pleasing
That’s what makes it deceiving.
Maybe not now,
But in another lifetime,
We’ll get to feel
A love that’s genuine.
Gradually grew apart.
And suddenly, our two worlds turned dark.
Now we wear these smiles
Like a mask
A thick coat of paint
To cover the scars.
We appear as though we are happy,
But the wounds run deep.
The love we once shared
Is now out of reach.
Our souls weep
To be set free.
We still hope for true love,
Though we dare not seek.
What even is love?
We ask ourselves.
Is it a fleeting emotion,
That demands self-sabotage
To keep it alive?
Still, the idea seems pleasing
That’s what makes it deceiving.
Maybe not now,
But in another lifetime,
We’ll get to feel
A love that’s genuine.
