ONCE UPON A LOST LOVE STORY
By Caleb Angel

I didn’t plan to fall
But, I was ready.
Head first. No hesitation.
It caught me off guard
the way you captivated me.
Amazed me.
Shocked me.

What I felt in that single moment…
I’d never felt before.
It wasn’t just butterflies.
It was an avalanche.

We were vibing
no effort, no pretense.
The chemistry
undeniable.
My heart, my body, my soul…
they all aligned with yours
like they had been waiting,
waiting for you.

We just… clicked.
Our minds dancing around the same ideas.
Laughing at the same truths.
We were in sync.
And God !
It felt like home.

And after… I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Couldn’t get you out of my head,
no matter how hard I tried.
Me,
the careful one, the one who plans,
the one who never jumps.
I was falling. Fast. Deep.

But the parting
that moment when our bodies paused,
when our eyes lingered…
I don’t know
Was it tension? Desire? Something else?

We looked at each other,
and the air between us
was thick with everything we didn’t say.
Just waiting, hoping
for someone to make that first move.
I didn’t.
You didn’t.
So I said goodbye…
but it felt more like surrender.

And now, I keep replaying it.
Wishing I had the courage
to stay. To speak.
To taste that unknown future
we were so close to touching.

I know I’ll see you again
but not like that.
Not with the same magic in the air.
Maybe as strangers,
or worse
as two people pretending
there was never something there.

Maybe the tension will fade.
Or maybe it’ll haunt me forever.

But right now, writing this…
I think of you,
and I feel this…
this aching flutter in my stomach.
Like a whisper of what could have been.

Is this love?

Or is it the ghost of something
we never had the courage to make real?

The poem ONCE UPON A LOST LOVE STORY, is deeply emotional, beautifully vulnerable, and resonates with the quiet ache of almost-love , the kind that brushes your soul but never fully takes root.
