A Night Vigil

It was in late April
When we held a night vigil,
To commemorate five years of the demise of our uncle Derick,
That I met Beryl.
It was love at first sight,
And so we never wasted the night,
We just moved near a bush behind the main house,
Where I hurriedly unbuttoned Beryl’s blouse.
And so while people were mourning,
Beryl and I were moaning,
And just when I was tightening my buttocks,
We heard someone unlocking the backdoor padlock.
The rate of our heartbeats rose,
As the blood in our veins froze,
We remained interlocked in a statue state,
As we waited for our fate.
The intruder was an aunt,
Who went ahead to pull down her pant,
She squatted down to pee,
And when she was done we decided to flee.
That was six years ago,
Now every April,
Instead of my late uncle,
I remember Beryl,
And wish for another night vigil.
