When this time ends

When this time ends,
so too must the dream—
this long-lit lantern of
quiet, creative toil.

To dwell among the living,
I must return to the clang and clamor
of the world’s wide forge.

Yet before this hour fades,
within the hush of what is given,
even a flicker,
even a thread of flame—
I must set down as mine.
