I believe that books have all kinds of benefits from reading books. Knowledge, amusement, and many more.

Very diverse taste in mostly non-fiction and humor, sometimes I read like Johnny Five "Input! Input!"-books that teach, Mental Floss magazine is fun. Sometimes it's books that are pure junk like consuming a bag of cookies, sometimes it's for reassurance-if you read about a survivor from 9/11, a Holocaust journal...it puts ones piddling little problems in clearer perspective

Today I got rest and relaxation from my favourite books. I'm finding more and more that the best way to wind down without side-effects is to read a good book.

Escape is probably the best word. A good writer can take you away to another world. Also you normally learn something with each book, even if it's fiction. I have learnt more about the Roman empire from Colleen's Rome books than most Rome text books. Amazing to think she wrote them before the internet. She had to do all the research the old fashion way.

I fell the same way.Its learning and escapism for me too. The days before internet it must have taken years to research some of those books.
