that's not Not funny

Post by andr70 »

What do you usually do if somebody tells you a joke that's not funny at all? Do you try to laugh so as not to offend the person or tell the truth?

It really depends on the person telling the joke. Obviously if it's a child I laugh my ass off, if it's someone I know but not well I'll probably snicker, if it's a good friend and their joke falls flat I will makes sure they know it and will ridicule them to no end about how horrible the joke is and may end with dissecting every line and pointing out why it is so far from funny, again that happens with only the best of friends. It sounds cruel but I know they will and have done it to me.

I usually think about it for a sec, then say "I don't get it"

If I find the joke offensive for some reason, I'll tell them so. (For example, gender stereotypes annoy me, so I generally don't like jokes based on them.) But if the joke is just plain bad, I usually just say, "Heh."

I do that too. One of my coworkers once sent me some very racist jokes and I told her the next day to stop emailing any jokes to me at all.

Usually shake my head and walk away. If its an old one, I say the first time I heard that one I laughed so hard I kicked the slats out of my crib.

I'll usually just say something along the lines of "Ha ha." Or mention that I enjoyed it the first time I heard it (if it's true).

It depends on who the person is. If its my close friend then I'll just say, "that was not funny." If its someone I'm not really close with then I will laugh as to not hurt their feelings.
