Can reading make you allergic to paper?

I agree with @gali: move to e-books.
I agree with @Fran too: the problem is the paper not reading. But allergies can be affected through smells and sniffing too, so gloves might not solve the problem. Anyway, you should go to see a doctor. If you're really allergic to paper you should check if you're allergic to something else too.

OK gloves & a mask - maybe one of those suits they lab staff wear! I think gali is right & it's probably the cheaper option too.

That would be a funny sight! Take care of a book as if it was a nuclear weapon!
But for someone who prefers reading traditional books (which might not be the case) the "full transition" can be painful. Personally, I don't mind reading e-books at all, but cutting on my hardcover books would be practically a tragedy.
