Old Thrillers

Blame it on age, I'm a newbie. I'm a newbie that likes to research. Many years ago I read the book "The Hot Zone" That's a good book, it was on the best selling list. At the same time I purchased a thriller that involved toxic fish threatening a small town by the lake. The start of the book was a man fishing on the lake hooking a large fish, the fish was large had bad color, the fish was larger that the norm on that lake. When a person was exposed, he ended up in the same shape as the fish, basically falling apart. I usually research things (music,books) that I've read or heard in the past and research until I either give up or find what I'm looking for. This ones got me stumped. Has anyone come across something like this subject matter??
