WHAT WILL YOU DO THEN?

Post by andr70 »

I'm just interested, what will you do if you find out that you're the only person on our Earth?

I honestly answered this question for a college class once. And the answer is, find the stores of nuclear weapons, gather them together and watch the fireworks. Can't restart humanity alone, might as well end it all with display visible from Mars.

It seems engineers think about explosives a lot.
"The world has been printing books for 450 years, and yet gunpowder still has a wider circulation. Never mind! Printer's ink is the greater explosive: it will win." - Christopher Morley, "The Haunted Bookshop."

If you are the only one alone, you might as well be just dead. human can't live alone.

Firstly, i'll enjoy my solitude for some time, but then i'll go crazy for sure as i need some communication. Supposing that i have some animals and they'll be my friends. I mean like Robinson Crusoe.

I totally agree!

But on a creative note...
If it were a situation like in The Stand where I wake up from a hospital bed and find that everyone has died or disappeared, I would obviously quit working and have some fun. First though I would have to figure out how to work a power plant so the food at the grocery store wouldn't go bad. Man... I would probably have to throw away all those fresh vegetables and clean up the store so the place didn't fill up with bugs that chased around the rotting food.

One thing I would do is crank up the radio everywhere i went! I would make a giant remote that would operate everything in the city. I would drive around the world, see everything. I would learn to fly a plane and see more. Then I would learn to drive a sub.

All of this is pretty much made possible because there are currently billions of people in the world right now. This means that there is enough supplies to keep all these people living, so if instead there is suddenly one person alive, there is enough for that person to live without really having to produce anything. This means no more work. :)

I would certainly have a grand ole time.

I would travel all over the country; I would see everything that I've always wanted to see, but issues like work and money had always held me back from, and since I am the only one left, I obviously wouldn't feel guilty about taking cars that aren't mine or taking all the gas I need. I don't know how I would ever get over seas though...

Yikes. I'm a pretty solitary person; most people tend to drain me. I can go off to a party and be fun, but the next day I'm not answering your calls.

Yet, if there were nobody left, and after the fun wore off, I'd get weird. I'd go and collect as many movie reels and watch the people on screen. Spanish, French, German, Korean films, I'd watch them all. Outside, I'd be walking around with a shotgun, to scare off the coyotes and cougars. At night, I'm sure, I'd be having some really freaky dreams to explain everything.

Sounds fun, huh! :D

For me, really, books and movies and t.v. shows and ancient monuments to dead gods~~they are all part of a huge discussion. If we were wiped out, suddenly there'd be little point in all that. Killjoy? Yes. Hi.

Oh! I know! I'd just go off and live with the gorillas.

Settled.

I would go to a fairly warm place, pick the best house to live in, stock up on supplies, plant a garden. Then I would read a lot.

I try to find a fertility clinic and see if I could implant myself with an embryo to continue the human race.

If there was no hope of that, I would go live at a zoo and take care of all the animals. I think sometimes I prefer animals to people anyway.
