Gibberish and Insults

Post by Fee Verte »

I just saw an intersting post about books from a deceased estate:
Hello all,
I am not a literary person, so, I'm asking a favour please. Embarassed
I have a number of books on which I would like some advice. I'm not a dealer, just asking if these books are worth anything to anyone, some of which are over 100 years old.
I speak of the Marie Carelli books. My late mother had 29 of them. I'd hate to dump them if they could be of any value to anyone.
I have asked bookshops, but they are either unknown to the person in the shop, too old, or too new, depending on your outlook.
I also have a set of Agatha Christie books in pristine condition that I am looking for advice on.
I hope I do not offend, or break any rules.
Thanks and regards.
Neil.
These are two of the replies, one is gbberish and the other an insult:
It's okay I understand. God let things happen for a purpose.

what you can say, does it sounds real? Could it be so, or it is all fake?

Not a very nice way to deal with a guy who just wants some help! I do not undersatnd why this happens. Is it that there are robot computers that visit forums and will make random comments? The jibberish is rather surreal, but clearly upset or confused the original poster. I am not sure what the point of posting is if this is the kind of dilaogue that can be expected.

Also, these posts are directed at someone talking about his late mother's books! :x

Some people just have no idea. I think it is cruel to even reply this person unless you can help him.

I guess we have to always remember that in the grand scheme of things each of us constitutes merely a speck in the world wide web.

Consequently, when posting in online forums, despite the best of intentions, courtesy and sincerity, we have to expect the most unexpected of replies. It's all intended for our edification.

Interesting...I always thought those gibberish posts were users in a non-english speaking country trying to find a forum to spam. I never thought about the fact that they could be a bot.

Either way, I would love to see some moderation to get rid of the nonsense posts. I would even volunteer to delete some of them myself. However, I can't promise a specific amount of time per week or anything since I work full time and go to school.

Like morebooks4me I too thought a lot of this gibberish was emanating from non-english speakers or temporary demented keyboards but I guess we just have to accept there are people who really have nothing useful or intelligent to say and make allowance for them.
